Worcester Bishop’s Palace: The Deanery

Iron Age site, Bishops Palace surrounded by large walls and had a gatehouse with chambers.

 

1271                            20th October: Licence to crenellate granted.

13th C                          Vaulted Hall.

14th C                          Hall.

15th C                          Rooms added.

1717-1743                   Mostly rebuilt by Bishop Hough.

1759-1774                   Bishop Johnson spent over £5,000 on the Palace.

1950-1969                   Excavated.

1983                            Excavated by Hereford and Worcester County Council Archaeology Department.
