Locking Castle: Locking Head Farm

Medieval motte and bailey timber castle defended by a 4,9 ft high bank to the west with an external bank, the motte to the southern end of the bailey measuring 6.5 ft high.

Possible windmill on the motte.


1902-1903                  Excavated. Finds included dry stone chamber with steps at one corner, pottery, part of a sword and a coin.

1965                            Field Investigation.

1981                            Surveyed by Avon County Council.
