Coastal battery, bastion outwork originally measuring 200ft long and 50ft high and built against the town wall. Held 10 guns.

1569                            Built to guard against a Spanish invasion.

1588                            Surveyed by Sir Thomas Leighton and modified, including a 15ft high brick bastion with scarp.

1714                            Portion within the town wall was levelled when St. Georges chapel was built.
