Medieval motte and bailey castle. Remains were washed away by the River Wye when it changed course.

Passed to William Wardour MP, then Colonel Tomkyns Wardour.

 

1377                            Robert Whitney was Sheriff of Herefordshire and knight of the shire.

1401                            Mentioned – captured and burnt.

15 C                            Recorded as having a central tower and four other towers. Garrisoned by Pikemen and mounted soldiers.

1640’s                         The lands were divided between Sir Robert Whitney’s daughters after he had died.

1640’s                         After: Passed to the Rodd family of Foxley

1675                            Some buildings still on the site.

1730                            Remains swept away by the River Wye.
