Castle Mound: Leysters: Laysters

  • Laysters, Herefordshire.
  • Scheduled Monument.

 

Medieval motte. Circular mound measuring 27 m diameter and the top and standing 2 m – 4 m high defended by a surrounding ditch measuring 9 m wide.

May have been constructed in timber.

 

1850’s                         Excavated, no datable evidence found.

1993                            21st March: Examined by the Woolhope Naturalists Club.

20 C                            Excavated.
