 Medieval Bishop’s Palace, tower, wall.

 

12 C                            Dating from.

13 C                            Mid: Great Hall rebuilt.

14 C                            Early: Great Hall remodeled.

1486-21500                 During: Bishop Alcock built two towers of four storey’s high to act as a gatehouse.

15 C                            Palace built by Bishop Alcock.

1549-1550                   Long Gallery built by Bishop Goodrich.

1550                            West wing and the upper part of the west tower built by Bishop Goodrich.

1667-1675                   During: Bishop Laney demolished most of Bishop Goodrich’s Palace and re-cased the centre, south facing block.

1771                            Interior of the Palace remodeled by Bishop Keene.

1969                            Field Investigation.

1980                            Watching Brief by Cambridgeshire City Council.

1987                            Excavated by Cambridgeshire County Council Archaeology Section.

1990                            Excavated by Cambridge Archaeological Unit, University of Cambridge.

1991                            Watching Brief by Cambridge Archaeological Unit, University of Cambridge.
